ShiftPin privacy policy

Last updated October 24, 2026

At a glance

  • Data stays on your phone, with no cloud backup
  • No account and no server
  • No ads, analytics or crash reporting
  • Network use only for update checks

ShiftPin keeps your work site, hours and pay records on your phone. It has no account and no server of its own, and the developer never receives your location, hours or pay.

What ShiftPin stores on your phone

  • The work site you pin: its latitude and longitude, how accurate the GPS fix was, the fence radius and when you pinned it.
  • Each job: start and end times, your hourly rate, a copy of the site location and radius, and any notes.
  • Time blocks inside each job, with what started or stopped them (arriving, leaving or a manual action), whether you added the block by hand, and any note you typed for it.
  • Pay you log: the amount, an optional note and the date.
  • A job-site log for each job: when your phone arrived at or left the fence, when the clock started or stopped, when the job started or ended, any lunch break taken off the clock, and when you added, edited or deleted hours by hand. ShiftPin shows this as the job's timeline.
  • Your settings, such as rate, overtime, lunch, rounding, theme and currency.

This data stays in the app's private storage and is never uploaded. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.

When you delete a finished job, ShiftPin also deletes that job's time blocks, lunch breaks and job-site log. Pay you logged against the job is kept so your payment records stay complete. A job that is still open can't be deleted until you end it.

Backup and new phones

ShiftPin keeps no cloud backup. It turns off Android cloud backup for all of its data, including your shifts, pay and work-site location, so none of it is copied to an online account.

  • On Android 12 and newer, your data moves to a new phone only during a phone-to-phone transfer that you start yourself.
  • On Android 11 and older, ShiftPin data is never backed up or transferred.

Location

  • ShiftPin asks for precise location so it can pin your work site and tell whether you are inside the fence.
  • It asks for location "all the time" so the fence can start and stop the clock while the screen is off. It only watches the fence while a job is open.
  • ShiftPin uses the location and geofencing service in Google Play services on your phone. ShiftPin does not send your location to the developer or anyone else. Google's handling of location inside Play services follows Google's privacy policy and your phone's location settings.

Notifications

While a job is open, ShiftPin shows an ongoing notification with your hours. If you turn on clock alerts, it also notifies you when the clock starts or stops. If you set a no-shift reminder, it posts one notification at the time you pick on days when no shift has started. ShiftPin works out that reminder on the phone and sends nothing anywhere. Android requires the notification permission for all of these.

Internet use

ShiftPin has no ads, analytics or crash reporting. The only network use is the Check for updates button, and it depends on where you got the app:

  • Installed from Google Play: the button asks Google Play whether an update exists and may open the app's store page.
  • Installed from the Galaxy Store: the app never checks for updates itself. The store handles updates.
  • Installed from the developer's update page: the button asks phone.tomsweldingandauto.com for the latest version number and downloads the update file if there is one. That server sees a normal web request, including your IP address. It does not receive any job, pay or location data.

Sharing

When you export history, ShiftPin writes a CSV file in its private cache and opens Android's share menu. The file goes only to the app you pick. ShiftPin deletes the previous export file the next time you export.

Children

ShiftPin is a work-hours tool and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date.
